Joan Schiffer LevinsonPresident's Message

by Joan Schiffer Levinson

It has been a privilege and a pleasure to have served as President of Women’s Philanthropy of Greater MetroWest. Now as I reflect over these past two years, I am struck by the depth and the scope of all we have done and all I have learned. Looking back I feel like a kid in a candy store. Everywhere I turned there were new opportunities to learn more and do more: visiting the WAE Center; volunteering at Union Beach; participating in the community Challah Bake; watching amazing young women become emerging leaders; representing our community on national missions to Israel; and joining with hundreds of like-minded Jewish women at inspiring events as we raised money to secure a better life for others. Caring for those in need is the core value of our Federation and the unifying force that drives the energy and the passion of our Women’s Philanthropy. The women who make us strong, vibrant, and successful in our Federation work are driven by a common desire to give of themselves to help others – and no one can do this alone.

There is a limit to what any individual can do, but there is no limit to what we as a collective can do. With reflection comes tremendous gratitude for so many. My heartfelt thanks to the Women’s Presidents and Campaign Chairs who came before me, who inspired and supported me. The impact of seven passionate and creative Vice Presidents working closely with a small, but mighty team of tireless and committed professionals has been nothing short of incredible. And finally, as I conclude my final President’s Message, I want to express a special thank-you to Jody Caplan, Laura Queller, Beth Levin, Jane Gomez, and Beth Manes Lax for the honor of being included in the Women’s Philanthropy newsletter and allowing me to share my thoughts and ideas in each outstanding issue.

Perhaps the greatest lesson learned is that if you dream big, work hard, stay focused, and surround yourself with good people, most things are possible. It has truly been an honor to lead our Women’s Philanthropy for these past two years, and I thank all of you for joining me in my efforts to make a difference in the lives of others.

Wishing you a happy, peaceful, and fun-filled summer.
Joan
