The Lions of Judah are the most dynamic philanthropic Jewish women in the world. We are women of all ages, an international sisterhood of thousands of global activists who care deeply about the Jewish future. Lions of Judah play a vital role in promoting social justice, aiding the vulnerable, preserving human dignity, and building Jewish identity. Since 1972, Lions of Judah have been leading the way by driving the UJA Annual Campaign forward with significant impact. By making an annual donation of $5,000 or more to the UJA Annual Campaign, each Lion establishes herself as a leader in her community. Today, 17,500 women around the world are proud to call themselves Lions. For more information, click here.
The internationally recognized symbol of the Lion of Judah program is a jewel-inset 14-carat gold Lion pin that can also be worn as a pendant. Each year that a woman sustains or increases her minimum $5,000 gift to the UJA Annual Campaign, she is eligible to have a small diamond set into the pin. As her contribution grows, additional precious gems may be placed as an inset in the lion’s eye.
Forever Starts Today
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Lion of Judah Endowment.
The strength and vitality of a woman’s giving continues through a Lion of Judah Endowment (LOJE). Establishing a LOJE enables a woman to leave a legacy to safeguard the values that have inspired her own giving. A LOJE gift represents the creation of a permanent fund guaranteeing that a woman’s financial commitment of at least $5,000 will continue to be made to the UJA Annual Campaign in perpetuity.
Nationwide, 3,800 women have created Lion of Judah Endowments totaling $620 million in future gifts. Through simple, innovative steps, an endowed gift is within the reach of any Lion, regardless of age.
Endow your gift and join us in celebrating 25 years of Lion of Judah Endowment. Together we keep the flame alive.
For more information about the LOJE, contact The Jewish Community Foundation of the Greater MetroWest NJ.
Every two years, Lions gather in a major city for three phenomenal days of learning, sharing, and celebration. We inspire one another and hear from the world’s leading speakers in the fields of religion, culture, art, business, and politics.
Greater MetroWest Lions also have opportunities throughout the year to meet locally in more intimate settings to connect with one another and learn more about the impact of our giving.
Nearly 400 strong, we are one of the largest North American communities of Lions... join us and find out how we are changing the world together!
The Lions of Greater MetroWest are joining forces for a historic Lions’ Leap. Together, we transform lives: this time, by breathing new life into the Arad Music Conservatory in our partnership community of Arad, Israel. For more information click here or to learn how you can make the Lions' Leap, contact Diane Bakst at dbakst@jfedgmw.org or (973) 929-3056.
The Greater MetroWest Lions of Judah came together Friday, October 5 for a memorable morning filled with joy, inspiration, and warmth. Mingling with dear friends and sipping mimosas, this was the perfect celebration of all that we do to support Jewish Federation. Featured speaker Vicki Agron, an expert in the power of women’s collective giving, urged us all to evaluate our own philanthropic journeys and taught us how to “lead an intentional life.”
Event chairs Abbi Halpern and Maxine Schwartz launched the 2019 Lions’ Leap initiative to restore the Arad Music Conservatory in Arad, Israel. They shared a moving video from Arad which inspired many more women to “Take the Leap” by increasing their annual UJA gift. Hot pink “I Took the Leap” buttons were plentiful… thank you Leapers!
We were all delighted to honor Paula Gottesman, Greater MetroWest recipient of the 2019 Kipnis-Wilson/Friedland Award, for her dedication to transforming our community for the past five decades. Lori Klinghoffer gave a heartfelt introduction and presented Paula with a gift and the award certificate.
Celebrating and honoring all those whose legacy lives on, Women’s Philanthropy President Jody Hurwitz Caplan shared her own personal endowment story and how the 134 living endowed Lions represent the future of Jewish philanthropy. In a moving and meaningful ceremony, she and VP of Major Gifts Michele Landau lit a memorial candle for the 63 endowed Lions who have passed away.
