Global Connections

Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ is committed to maintaining the vibrancy and continuity of our people worldwide and to building meaningful connections between our Jewish community and our partners in Israel and around the world.

Israel programming is one of the most effective ways to connect North American Jews to their heritage and their Jewish identity. Israelis also feel more connected to the larger Jewish world and are more aware of their Jewish identity when they foster relationships with Jews outside of Israel.

We emphasize connecting our community with others around the world and have developed a myriad of projects and programs through unique partnerships with six communities in Israel and one in Cherkassy, Ukraine. Through these partnerships we:

  • respond to social, cultural, economic, welfare, and educational needs throughout Israel, especially in the Negev
  • foster Jewish identity and Jewish pluralism
  • support the values of a democratic Israeli shared society
  • Rishonim IL

Rishonim IL is an exclusive and highly subsidized program designed for GMW high-school graduates that gives you the chance to represent Greater MetroWest NJ in Israel—and then come back home to share your experiences and put them into action!

ANNOUNCING RISHONIM CHAI!

In the 18th year of our Greater MetroWest Rishonim (young Israeli emissaries) Program, as we continue to live and work in a virtual world, Rishonim Chai (חי) is born. Our community is excited to welcome back ten rishonim alumni (from the past 17 years) to virtually educate children, teens, and adults throughout the community. Despite the distance, they are bringing their special spirit and enthusiasm to enlighten the community about Israeli people and culture, and foster connections with Israel.

Meet this year's rishonim.

  • Host a Rishon & BRING ISRAEL HOME!

We are looking for warm, loving families to serve as hosts. This is a wonderful opportunity for families with children to create a lasting connection with a young Israeli!

  • Jewish Diaspora Communities

We support, raise awareness, and educate our community about the plight of Jews throughout the Diaspora, especially with Cherkassy, Ukraine.

  • Shared Society (Pluralism)

We promote, foster, and support an Israeli society that is open and tolerant and that provides equal opportunity for all its citizens.

  • GMW Israel Engagement

We bring Israel to life in Greater MetroWest by creating authentic Israel connections through our delegation of shlichim (emissaries).

  • Negev Council

We create vibrant partnerships in the Negev, supporting social and economic development, providing programming that enhances Jewish life, and building relationships.

  • Uncovering Israel

This page is an educational resource providing monthly updates from Israel, virtual tours, Israel-related activities for families, and so much more! It’s a place where we can all share our interest and enthusiasm for Israeli people and culture, and foster our connections with Israel.

  • Meet Our Rishonim

In light of current pandemic, this year’s rishonim (young Israeli emissaries) will be a diverse group of rishonim alumni. They will virtually connect our community to Israel through a variety of programming.
