Opportunities to Give Thanks by Helping Others

Looking for a meaningful way to give to those in need this holiday season? One way is to provide for the needs of the many families and asylum seekers being held in detention centers at the U.S. southern border.

The Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona is coordinating donations to Casa Alitas, a center in their community. They are collecting new coats (sized for small adults, children, and babies), new scarves, and Amazon or Walmart gift cards to purchase needed items. They are also accepting used cell phones to provide to asylum seekers making their way across the country, so they can communicate with friends and loved ones.

If your family would like to help, here are four steps to doing this mitzvah:

  1. Gather any of the items listed above.
  2. Package them up and send to Jill Rich, 7735 North Sendero De Juana, Tucson, AZ 85718
  3. Create an uplifting greeting card to include in the package.
  4. Take a photo of your family throughout this process and post it to the Center for Volunteerism Facebook Page with the hashtag XXXXXX!
