Independence Day

We’re doing things a little differently this week to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israeli Independence Day) and Yom Hazikaron (Memorial Day). We’re sponsoring eight different events all over the community.

We want to allow everyone in our community, of every age and background, the opportunity to celebrate Israel, and commemorate the fallen soldiers to whom we owe so much.

So there’ll be eight different events, covering more of our community. Many of our synagogues, agencies, schools, and colleges have events, too, and we’re proud to cooperate and promote them.

In a way, you can think of what we’re doing as a reflection of the spirit of Yom Ha’atzmaut and Yom Hazikaron in Israel – you can feel it all over the community. You can see different aspects in different places.

Whatever your plans are this week, I hope you can join us:

Family celebration at Adath Shalom, Sunday the 19th
Family celebration at JCC, Sunday the 19th
Teens' party in Whippany, Sunday the 19th
Yom Hazikaron commemoration at JCC MetroWest in West Orange on Tuesday the 21st
Yom Ha'atzmaut concert with Capa'im at JCC MetroWest in West Orange on Wednesday the 22nd
Yom Ha'atzmaut celebration with Maccabeats at the Union Y on the 23rd
College students' Israel street fair at Rutgers University on the 24th
Young adults' Yom Ha'atzmaut cruising party on the Hudson on the 25th
