Powerful Mobile “This Is Hunger” Exhibit Coming to Our Community

MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger has designed a free exhibit that is bringing Americans face to face with the stark realities of hunger in the United States. Through storytelling techniques and interactive elements, the “This Is Hunger” mobile installation, built in an 18 wheeler truck, will engage thousands of visitors as it travels to more than 30 cities nationwide. MAZON has partnered with our Community Relations Committee to bring the exhibit to two stops in our community.

“This Is Hunger” features black-and-white portraits and stories of dozens of Americans who have had difficulty putting enough nutritious food on the table each day. Through digital and hands-on activities, participants are taken on a journey that draws them into the real-life circumstances of these individuals and deepens their awareness about who in America struggles with hunger and why. Visitors are then encouraged to educate others and advocate for change.

The exhibit will launch with an event on Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Congregation Beth El/South Orange, 222 Irvington Ave. in South Orange. This event is free and open to the public, and will include speakers and distinguished guests discussing the important issue of hunger. The exhibit will be open in this location through March 28 and will then move to Temple Emanu-el, 756 Broad St., Westfield, from March 29 to April 1.
