Women’s Philanthropy Around the World

by Jody Caplan, Vice President, Community Engagement

I found myself looking in awe and with a bit of envy this summer as I viewed all the photos my friends posted on Facebook that shared their recent travel experiences around the world. Many of these friends are women I have met through my involvement with Women’s Philanthropy. I was particularly struck by how they used precious vacation time and dollars to not only see historic sights and enjoy local delicacies and customs, but also to get to know the local Jewish communities of the places they visited.

Over the past year, women representing the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ have traveled abroad and made connections with Jews around the world. They have learned about the unique needs of our extended Jewish family, seen how the dollars we raise as a Federation are delivering services to address these needs, and met with both the service providers and the people we touch. They have all returned with amazing stories of what they have witnessed and a desire to share their experiences.

These learning opportunities are not limited to the women in our community. The Partnership for Jewish Learning and Life and The Israel Program Center support and create programs for our teens to twenty-somethings to explore Jewish Peoplehood and their own Jewish identities.

In this newsletter we share the stories of our travelers. We hope you enjoy reading about their experiences.

Happy Reading!

Jody

  • Young Women's Missions to Israel: 2015

This summer, Women’s Philanthropy sponsored a young women’s mission to Israel, ten years after the previous one. For author Becca Fisher and the other women who went on the mission this summer, their journey was so much more than just a trip to Israel.

  • Young Women's Missions to Israel: 2005

Women’s Philanthropy sponsored young women’s missions to Israel in 2005 and 2015, a decade apart. For the women who went on the mission ten years ago, their journey inspired them to become today’s Women’s Philanthropy leaders.

  • Youth Programs Span the Globe

Teens and twenty-somethings from Greater MetroWest NJ participated in a variety of programs, both at home and abroad, that enabled them to explore their Jewish heritage and expand their horizons. Perhaps one of these life-changing experiences is right for your child.

  • President's Message by Joan Schiffer Levinson

One year ago I participated in the Jewish Federation of North America Campaign Chairs and Director’s Mission that brought campaign professionals and lay leaders from 35 communities across North America together in Athens and Israel. Our itinerary shifted daily as the rockets flew and the needs of our family in Israel became more intense with each passing day.
