“Relationships are all there is”*

There’s so much happening to remind us that we live in an interconnected world. And it’s easier than ever to just get on a plane and travel anywhere we want. It’s a sobering – and positive – reminder that our abilities and responsibilities are global, as well as local.

Against a backdrop of growing global fear about the Ebola virus disease, our Federation, through our partner agency JDC, is helping to tackle existing gaps in aid.

Working with local partner organizations — the Afya Foundation and Heart to Heart International (HHI) — JDC is sending 20 pallets of personal protective equipment (PPE) requested by Sierra Leone for use by health care workers and patients during Ebola treatment. They’re also setting up an Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU) in Liberia to manage Ebola cases and establish a testing lab. They’re sending generators, pallets of bleach, and many other supplies to support the delivery of 24/7 care at treatment centers.

Think about this for a minute and what it means. We have a Jewish response on the ground to this awful epidemic. If you support our UJA annual campaign, you’re helping us support JDC’s vital infrastructure on the ground. You’re helping us fulfill a sacred mission that saves lives. And you’re part of a promise to care.

You should be proud. And we’re grateful.

*The quote is from Margaret (Meg) Wheatley, author and consultant: “Relationships are all there is. Everything in the universe only exists because it is in relationship to everything else. Nothing exists in isolation.”
