Supporting an Abundance of Israel Celebrations

As you know, this year marks the 70th birthday of the State of Israel. To celebrate this exciting milestone, our Federation invited Greater MetroWest agencies and synagogues to submit proposals for funding of Israel@70 programing. The goal was to increase the quality of our community’s local programing while, at the same time, creating a mosaic of Israel’s culture, history, and modern society and make it accessible to the widest audience possible.

We are pleased to announce that through this dynamic grant making process, chair Jamie Ramsfelder and her committee have awarded 14 grants (totaling almost $40,000) to organization to help finance their Israel@70 events all over the community. As the date gets closer, we will provide more details, but here is the list of projects and grantees:

  • Flag raising at the Livingston Oval & Library: B’nai Jeshurun, NCSY, Agudath Israel, JWAC, Beth Shalom, Temple Sinai, Etz Chaim, B’nai Abraham, Kushner Academy, Golda Och, Livingston High School, Livingston Diversity and Inclusion Committee
  • Israel@70 and the Y: Perfect Together: YM-YWHA of Union County (JEC with its shuls and its JFS)
  • ISRUN: World Zionist Organization, The Jewish Agency
  • CAI Celebrates Israel’s 70th: Congregation Agudath Israel
  • 70th Yom Hazikaron & Yom Ha’atzmaut Event: AABJ&D, Suburban Torah, Etz Chaim, Ohr Torah, Congregation Israel of Springfield
  • Israel@70 Festival @GRTWA: Gottesman RTW Academy
  • Israeli Picnic: Friends of Israeli Scouts, Ofek (Israeli school)
  • Havdallah Under the Stars: Temple Har Shalom, Mountain Top School
  • Flight to Israel in a Day: Temple Beth Shalom Religious School
  • Jerusalem—City of Faith: Pine Brook Jewish Center, Saint Pius X, Jam-e-Masjid Islamic Center
  • From Dessert Trekkies to Modern Techies: Temple Beth Am, Temple Shalom
  • In the Artist Studio—Preparing for the Paradox of Yom Ha’atzamut in Israeli Society with Etgar Keret: JCC of Central NJ, Temple Emanu-El (Westfield), Congregation Beth Israel (Scotch Plains), Temple Sholom (Scotch Plains), Temple Beth Ahm (Springfield), other Union County synagogues
  • Celebrate Israel on the Green: Morristown Jewish Center, Mt. Freedom Jewish Center, Temple B’nai Or
  • Celebrating GMW’s Israel Partnerships with Mega Festival: Adath Shalom, White Meadow Temple, possibly JSDD/WAE
