For almost 4 decades, SINAI Schools has been serving children with complex learning disabilities and special education needs throughout New Jersey and the New York Metropolitan area. Operating 3 elementary schools and 4 high schools, we provide highly individualized programming and specialized therapeutic services to meet the specific needs of each of our students. Each of these schools is a model of inclusion, integrated within a larger partner Jewish day school or yeshiva. SINAI is the only Jewish special education school to be accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

SINAI was established in 1982 in partnership with Hebrew Youth Academy, today known as Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy (JKHA). Today, SINAI’s largest presence is still in Livingston.

At SINAI, students are grouped into multi graded classes according to their social, academic, and emotional profiles, to create appropriate peer groups. A typical SINAI class averages between 5-9 students, with 2-3 credentialed teachers. The entire class works together on community building and social skills. For academic learning, children work in even smaller groups or one-on-one with a teacher, based on their individual learning needs in each subject. At SINAI, we teach to each individual child's strengths, and use a multi-sensory approach to provide our students with different ways to learn information that might be challenging to them.

Students who are ready for an academically rigorous program but who face learning disabilities or social skills challenges benefit from SINAI’s Maor High School at Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School. Many students at Maor fall into a “gray area” where they might otherwise attend a mainstream high school but would struggle academically or socially as a result. At Maor, these same children are able to take advantage of everything that Kushner has to offer them socially while learning in small classes tailored to their specific needs, and attending selected mainstream classes with the support they need to succeed.

SINAI students are full members of the JKHA and RKYHS student community - traveling on the bus together, eating lunch together, playing at recess and gym together, participating in school assemblies together, and joining their peers in JKHA and RKYHS academic classes when appropriate.

Our campuses also include elementary schools at Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey in River Edge, NJ and SAR Academy in Riverdale, NY; high schools for students with developmental/intellectual disabilities at Torah Academy of Bergen County, Ma’ayanot High School, and Heichal HaTorah, all located in Teaneck, NJ; and S.H.E.L.I., a supervised residence for young men in Teaneck, NJ.
