Congregation Communications and Education Coordinator

Background
Temple Sholom of West Essex, founded in 1954 and home to over 300 families, is a vital, inclusive Reform congregation that embraces individuals and families in a warm, nurturing environment. We foster Jewish commitment with innovative approaches to worship, learning, and living in the context of Jewish values and tradition. We are looking for a well-organized, highly motivated, detail-oriented, creative team player with excellent communications skills.

Position Description and Overview
This part-time person is responsible for coordinating all education communications and supporting all educational programs and events. The Congregation Communications and Education Coordinator is an integral part of the synagogue’s professional staff and supports our overall mission to engage current and future congregants, create a warm and welcoming environment, stimulate program attendance, and increase membership engagement.

The Congregation Communications and Education Coordinator is supervised by the Director of Congregational Learning. A successful candidate will help us communicate effectively with our members and provide efficient ways to organize and manage all aspects of our educational programs.

Responsibilities include:
-Assist the Director of Congregational Learning with Religious School registration, attendance, budget, progress reports, calendars, family programs, trips, contracts, outreach, and communication with teachers and parents. Plus assist in all aspects of Adult Education.

-Use technology to achieve more efficiency and creativity (i.e., spreadsheets, charts, mail merge, online tools), and implement multi-media platforms for enhanced communication practices.

-Create content and graphics for flyers, posters, banners, email, social media, calendars, and more as needed.

-Manage email lists and communicate regularly to congregants as needed: daily updates, weekly reminders, events, news, inclement weather, etc.

-Create communication chart/graphic organizer and logistics for all events.

-Register and maintain all students in the database including class and attendance lists. Calculate enrollment and attendance statistics and update spreadsheets.

-Maintain calendars for all educational programs.

-Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor, clergy, office manager and lay leaders.

-Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
-Social media posting and marketing experience
-Outstanding written communication and editing skills
-Detail-oriented, focused, and flexible
-Self-starter with high level of creativity and initiative
-Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
-Knowledge of Jewish culture and religious traditions

Proficient in
Social Media Platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
Microsoft Office 365
CRM software (Shul Cloud a plus)
Google Suite
Canva or another design program
Airtable a plus

Job Summary
Duration: part-time, in-person, 15 hours/week:
June-September = flexible hours
Oct- May = Tues 3-6pm; Wed 3-8pm; additional 8 hours are flexible
Salary: $21/hour
Experience: Entry Level (0-3 years)
