Join Rabbis to Discuss the Inaugural Address... and Have Coffee

We have more than 100 congregational rabbis in Greater MetroWest, representing all streams and denominations. It’s a tribute to our community’s diversity and tolerance that our rabbinic leadership can convene and meet together, and discuss issues in an atmosphere of tolerance and respect.

In anticipation of the discussions, debates, and dissections of the 45th president’s inaugural address on Friday, Rabbi John Schechter of Congregation B’nai Israel in Basking Ridge has coordinated an important initiative with our Jewish Federation Community Relations Committee: “Coffee with Rabbis.” Several dozen of our community rabbis will hold lively, respectful discussions on a host of matters of interest to the Jewish community including health care, reproductive rights, immigration reform, public school education, and Israel, among other issues, all based on one common text – the inaugural address.

We’re excited to invite you to join us for these small discussion groups, each led by two rabbis (drawn from different movements), on Sunday, January 22 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. These conversations will take place at private homes, synagogues, and local coffee shops, depending on the number of people wishing to join the table.

If you’d like to take part in a discussion group, please send an email to CoffeeWithRabbis@aol.com with your name, email address, and the town where you live. Directions to your location and a copy of the incoming President’s Inaugural Address will be emailed to you after Shabbat on January 21.

I’m grateful to Rabbi Schechter, our community rabbis, my colleague Linda Scherzer, our CRC Director, and to all those who plan on taking part in this important initiative.
