    India was never on my bucket list. But when asked to co-chair a Jewish Federations of North America Young Leadership Cabinet (NYL Cabinet) study mission, I quickly checked that my passport was up to date and looked forward to the opportunity to expand my knowledge of global Jewry with 110 Federation peers from across North America.

    When the 5-year-old niece of Alli Thresher, social media manager of PJ Library, starts asking questions, Thresher acknowledged she doesn’t always know how to answer them, and then, “I’m in a pickle.” Because of the wave of anti-Semitism that struck JCCs, parks, cemeteries, and other Jewish institutions, PJ Library...created a resource list for talking to children about terrorism and anti-Semitism.

  • DOI medical director receives top award

    Dr. Joshua Schor, MD, CMD, and medical director of Daughters of Israel in West Orange, was named the 2017 Medical Director of the Year by AMDA-The Society of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine. He received the award during the society’s annual conference in Phoenix.

  • Celebrating Israeli Independence

    More than 100 people, including several families from Israel, celebrated Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, at the Oval on Tuesday morning, May 2. Hosted by the Jewish Federation of Greater Metrowest New Jersey, the event included the raising of the Israeli flag, shown above, in commemoration of Israel’s 69th anniversary. The event included speeches from civic and Jewish Federation leaders and musical performances.

  • Clients on autism spectrum get job training at JVS

    Sebastian Clement of Montclair placed a cereal box on the shelf of a make-believe supermarket, smiled, and said he enjoys organizing products and stocking the shelves. “I like it because it keeps my mind busy,” he said. At age 22, he has been receiving job training through the Career Discovery Program of the Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest NJ in East Orange.

  • Kushner dinner to honor past and present leaders

    The Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy/Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School (JKHA/RKYHS) 69th Annual Dinner gala will celebrate honorees Sandra and Howard Blank, Paula and Jerry Gottesman, and Harriet and George Blank, representing the role of parents, community members, and educational leaders; the legacy of the school’s early founders; and grandparents and community leaders whose work aims to sustain Jewish education.

  • Gaelen art show winners announced

    At the counter, a painting by pastel artist Jeri Greenberg of Mountainside, garnered Best in Show at the 18th annual Gaelen Juried Art Show & Sale. On display at the Gaelen Gallery West on the Aidekman campus in Whippany, the highly selective show this year features 82 works of art by 54 artists from the area.

  • Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest Day Schools March

    For the partner schools in the Greater MetroWest Day School Initiative, the 2017 Celebrate Israel Parade was more than a celebration of Israel. This year, for the first time, these schools marched together, united under one umbrella, in a show of achdut that resonated strongly with the schools, the Jewish Federation and the greater Jewish community.
