Summary
The Director of Global Connections creates and fosters connections between the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ, Israel and the Jewish Diaspora through community engagement and people-to-people connections, as well as the work Federation supports overseas. The Director will oversee and work with a dynamic team to develop and implement all parts of Federation’s Israel and Overseas work including but not limited to allocations, building community partnerships, fostering lay leader relationships and communicating impact to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and serve as liaison for all of Federation’s work in Israel and Overseas
  • Serve as a community resource for Israel-related inquiries and interests
  • Work closely with volunteer leadership to develop and carry out community programming around Israel and Federation’s work overseas
  • Oversee key members of the Global Connections team to coordinate, cultivate, and educate Federation’s Global Connections allocations committees - the lay decision-making bodies responsible for making funding recommendations for the community
  • Strengthen community-wide partnerships around Israel engagement with Jewish organizations, institutions and synagogues
  • Maintain ties with all Israel and Overseas partners
  • Work with key members of the Global Connections team to oversee the relationship with Greater MetroWest’s six overseas partners (5 in Israel and 1 in Cherkassy, Ukraine) including the people-to-people delegations that visit GMW each year
  • Help Identify and support local community partners and programming around Israel celebrations and events including Yom Ha-Atzamut and Yom-HaZikaron
  • Supervise the Community Shaliach overall Shlichim program
  • Together with other departments in Federation, provide and develop strategies to raise Israel and Overseas’ profile in the community
  • Represent the Federation both within and outside of the Jewish community
  • Work with Federation’s Annual Campaign team, professional and lay, to identify and increase philanthropic dollars and donors directing gifts to Federation for Israel and Overseas-related work
  • Directly supervise five professionals
  • Annual Israel travel

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Significant experience building partnerships and relationships with lay and professional leadership around a shared vison and mutual respect
  • Strong personal presence that educates, motivates and inspires collaboration
  • Experience working with international partner organizations
  • Understanding of the diaspora Jewish community and Israel historical and present
  • Ability to discuss Israel with people of varying educational, religious and political backgrounds
  • Ability to work occasional evening hours and travel throughout Israel and Overseas as needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership, managerial and administrative skills
  • Ability to manage a budget
  • Experience forming and managing lay and professional committees
  • Knowledge of Hebrew spoken and written preferred but not required
  • 8-10 years of achievement in non-profit organizations
