JOB SUMMARY:

The Chief Planning Officer is an essential part of our Federation. S/he overseas multi-functional teams of professionals and lay leaders to develop long-term strategies for data-driven community planning, growth, and stability. The Chief Planning Officer supervises local, national, and overseas allocations of our $21M UJA annual campaign and cross-functional program departments that provide services throughout the community. The Chief Planning Officer is an integral member of senior management team helping to develop proposals and stewardship for high-level donors and community-wide organizational messaging.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary:

  • Supervise 11 cross-functional program departments with over 30 professionals providing services throughout the community including a substantial Shlichim/Shinshinim (Israel Emissary Program). These include – CARES, ABLE, Allocations, Community Relations, Security, Day School Council, Camp Enterprise, Global Connections, Israel programming, and GMW Hillel
  • Supervise the annual UJA allocation process and any emergency and supplemental allocations processes, including procedures, coordination with partner agencies, support for the decision-making process of allocations committees, and appropriate management of all recommendations relating to programs and allocations. Coordinate with other departments of Federation to ensure that the total budget of the organization reflects mission and fiscal prudence
  • Directly staff the Unified Allocations Council
  • Develop, maintain, and improve positive working relationships with the professional and volunteer leadership of the various partner agencies in the community, to ensure their cooperation and effectiveness in meeting the needs of the community
  • Work with Federation’s Impact and Marketing teams and Campaign team to help lead the presentation of Federation impact locally and around the world
  • Supervise Greater MetroWest Program Services to monitor the emerging needs of the Greater MetroWest Jewish Community, plan appropriate service responses, and seek ways of implementing the services in the community
  • As a senior manager, to hold portfolios in donor relations, cultivation and stewardship for UJA Annual Campaign and Jewish Community Foundation, including the Centennial Campaign
  • Work closely with and on behalf of the CEO on significant community needs, challenges and opportunities as they arise. At present these include – A GMW Community Study; assisting agencies during the pandemic

THE CHIEF PLANNING OFFICER WORKS WITH:

  • Chairs, Vice-Chairs, and members of all committees relating to planning and allocations and programs and services departments
  • Staff of the Planning & Community Services Department
  • Executive staff and senior lay leaders of beneficiary agencies
  • Senior Management Team, which advises the CEO and guides the CEO decision-making, policy, planning and outreach
  • The CEO

SUPERVISORY AND COACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct supervision to department Directors in the Planning and Community Services Department
  • Adjust assignments to meet the workflow requirements, reflect the various abilities and interests of the staff, and provide each employee with a supportive work environment that will comport with their career aspirations
