Middle School Learning Specialist

Golda Och Academy 1418 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange NJ

Golda Och Academy is currently seeking a Part-Time Middle School Learning Specialist (grades 6-8) for the 2019-2020 school year. Successful candidates will have a proven track record of successfully teaching and supporting the growth and development of high achieving middle/high school students with diverse learning profiles. Our Learning Specialists are an integral part of the teaching team, where they ensure that the academic, social and emotional needs of every student are addressed.

Responsibilities include:
Acting as the primary case manager to a group of students with learning differences
- Regularly meet with students and monitor progress
- Provide consultation to classroom teachers supporting best practices toward the implementation of students’ Learning Plans
- Actively communicate progress to students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders including tutors and therapists
- Facilitate teacher team meetings for students on your caseload, and participate in grade level and/or departmental meetings.

Writing of individual student Learning Plans
- Create teacher friendly Learning Plans highlighting student’s personal profile, academic strengths and challenges, and recommendations for classroom-based strategies
- Interpret and incorporate data from educational evaluation reports into Learning Plans
- Attend Annual and Triennial IEP meetings with the county Child Study Team

Provide direct instructional support to individual students and in small group settings
- Support students with reading, writing, and math
- Provide support with the organization and executive functioning, study habits, note taking and other learning skills

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required
~ Master’s degree and/or LDTC certification preferred
- 3+ years working with middle and/or high school students required
~ Content area specialist in math or language arts preferred
~ Experience with and knowledge of CST meetings, development of IEPs, 504 and I&RS processes and procedures preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills in managing multiple projects
- Strong affinity for the mission of Golda Och Academy and an educational philosophy consistent with the school’s core values
- Commitment to building and sustaining an inclusive community and program which reflects the diverse learners and families in our school

In the tradition of Solomon Schechter schools, Golda Och Academy grounds a rigorous dual academic curriculum in the culture and tenets of Conservative Judaism and welcomes students from a wide range of synagogue affiliations and Jewish expression. Our school is divided into two campuses - one for the Lower School (grades Pre-K - 5) and one for the Upper School (grades 6 -12) - located about two miles apart in West Orange. The school serves approximately 500 students from more than 60 communities across New Jersey.
