Center for Volunteerism

Welcome to Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ’s Center for Volunteerism — providing year-round opportunities to make an impact in the lives of others. Through a variety of meaningful service opportunities, you can help care for those in need, strengthen our Jewish community, and make an impact on causes you care about.

As you look for meaningful ways to engage your family and help those in need, consider the volunteer opportunities listed below and complete the following registration form.

And keep checking back – as new opportunities will be listed here!

IN-PERSON

Gardening in Newark’s Urban Farm: Volunteer to help plant and maintain the Greater Newark Conservancy’s urban farm. Small groups of volunteers are permitted to work in-person on the farm on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-noon or Fridays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. COVID protocols must be adhered to and volunteers must sign up in advance. Here is the link to learn more or to sign up.

Meal Delivery for Holocaust Survivors: Jewish Family Service of Central NJ is looking for volunteers to help deliver lunches to Holocaust survivors participating in the Virtual Café Europa Program on Thursdays. Volunteers pick up lunches at Rye Deli in Springfield (799 Mountain Ave.) between 11:15-11:30 a.m. and deliver the lunches to between three and six clients throughout Union County. Efforts will be made to make the routes as accommodating as possible.

Gardening at the Community Urban Garden: Individuals/Families to help tend to the community garden at Jewish Family Service of Central NJ that produces over 1,500 lbs of fresh produce each summer to be distributed to people in need. Volunteers are asked to harvest produce, add and shovel soil to the beds, plant, weed, and more.

Kosher Food Pantry of Jewish Family Service of Central NJ: Help with daily operations such as distributing food, stocking shelves, and making bags of food.

Provide food for those in need: The Community Food Bank of NJ in Hillside is urgently in need of volunteers to help pack food for NJ citizens who are struggling with food insecurity. Volunteer sessions take place Monday through Saturday, from 9am-3:30pm. Volunteers must be 16+. To schedule a volunteer shift, please visit: https://cfbnj.secure.force.com/Comm_Calendar

VIRTUAL/AT HOME

Rock Painting for the Newark Conservancy’s “Kindness Rocks” Garden: Paint rocks with words of inspiration for the Greater Newark Conservancy’s “Kindness Rocks Garden.” This rock garden greets visitors with bright colors and messages of hope and inspiration. Rocks can vary in size and shape. Acrylic paint or paint pens on smooth rocks seem to work the best.

“Friendly Visitor” calls to seniors: Jewish Family Service of Central NJ is looking for volunteers to help with their “Friendly Visitor” calls to seniors program.

Send a note to a senior. Create a greeting card or write a friendly letter to a senior to cheer them up! These will be distributed to clients of Jewish Family Service of MetroWest in their Meals on Wheels deliveries or other care packages. Send or drop off cards in the mail slot on the door:
